Вечерта на 12.04. бе паметна и ще остане за дълго в съзнанието ми – първо, защото на следващия ден се случи нещо, което обърна живота ми в коренно различна посока, и второ, защото имах удоволствието да се докосна до бърбъна Wild Turkey 8y 101 proof. Марката „Wild Turkey“ е сравнително непозната на нашия пазар и бива подценявана с оглед ниската цена, на която може да откриете част от продуктите от портофолиото ѝ, но всъщност е световно значимо име сред ценителите на бърбъна.
Дестилерията е ситуирана в Лоурънсбърг, Кентъки. Историята на бранда се свързва с братята Рипи, които през 1869г., отворили своя дестилерия в Лоурънсбърг. Уискито, което произвеждали не носело познатото ни име. Течността в бутилката е кръстена „Wild Turkey“ през 1940г., след един лов на диви пуйки, при който близки на шефа на компанията били почерпени с уискито /шефът го ползвал като продукт, с който черпел близки приятели и сродни души/. Директорът Макарти получил вест от един от участващите в лова, който нахално си поискал глътка, бутилка или две от „онова уиски, с дивите пуйки“. И тогава Макарти бил сполетян от идеята да обозначи бърбъна със споменато вече име, което виждаме по етикетите.
За първи път пробвах Wild Turkey 81 proof преди месеци и ми направи изключително впечатление. Бях изненадан от силата на аромата и пикантния вкус, дължащ се на завидното количество ръж. Воден от спомена за него реших да дегустирам по-силното, 50 % уиски, на осемгодишна възраст. И ето на какво се натъкнах … Цветът в бутилката е махагонов. Ароматът без вода: комплексен, дървен, сладникав, пиперлив и флорален. При добавяне на няколко капки вода се долавя мирис на горена захар, череша/ вишна и задължителната ванилия. Вкусът без вода е плътен, мазен, пикантен, приятно парещ по езика и устната кухина. С вода отключих вкус на бонбони пияни вишни и нотка шоколад, съчетан с пикантността, дължаща се на високото съдържание на ръж. Финалът е продължителен и сгряващ. Усетих нотки на ядки /лешник или бадеми/, масло, маслен домашен сладкиш и череша. В обобщение: Wild Turkey 8y 101 proof е изключително, приятно, силно, но едновременно с това и пивко питие, което ще прилегне на мнозина и аз задължително ще продължа контактите си с него /надявам се да имам възможността да пробвам и Wild Turkey Rare Breed barrel proof, считан за един от най-добрите бърбъни в света/. The Wild turkey – Wild Turkey 8y 101 proof
The evening of 12.04. was memorable and will remain in my mind for a long time – firstly, because something happened on the next day that turned my life in a completely different direction and secondly, because I had the pleasure to get in touch with „Wild Turkey 8y 101 proof“ bourbon. The brand „Wild Turkey“ is relatively unknown to our market and being often underestimated, because of the low price at which you can find some of its products, but actually it is globally significant name among bourbon connoisseurs.
The distillery is located in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. The story of the brand is related with the Ripy brothers which in 1869 opened their distillery in Lawrenceburg. The whiskey, that they were making, hadn’t worn the name we know. The liquid in the bottle is named „Wild Turkey“ in 1940, after a hunt of wild turkeys in which relatives of the head of the company were regaled with the whiskey / the boss has used it only for good friends and soulmates /. McCarthy, the executive at the company, received a message from one of the participants in the hunt, who insolently asked for sip, a bottle or two of „that whiskey, with the wild turkeys“. Then McCarthy has been stricken by the idea to denote the bourbon with the name already mentioned, the same we see on the labels.
A month ago, I tried „Wild Turkey 81 proof“ for the first time and it made me great impression. I was surprised by the strength of the aroma and spicy taste, result of the enviable amount of rye. Driven by the memory of it I decided to taste the stronger, 50% whiskey, eight year old. And here’s what I came upon … The color in the bottle is mahogany. The aroma without water: complex, woody, sweetish, peppery and floral. After adding a few drops of water, can be caught the aroma of burnt sugar, cherry/ morello cherry and the indispensable vanilla. The taste without water is dense, oily, spicy, pleasantly stinging on the tongue and mouth. With water I unlocked the taste of „drunken cherries“ candy and a hint of chocolate, combined with the spiciness from the high content of rye. The finish is long and warming. I caught notes of nuts / hazelnut or almond /, butter, homemade butter cake and cherry. In summary: „Wild Turkey 8y 101 proof“ is very nice, strong, but at the same time palatable drink which will pleases many and I will definitely continue to keep in touch with it / I hope to have the opportunity to taste and „Wild Turkey Rare Breed barrel proof“, considered as one of the best bourbons in the world /.
